Groupe Renault confirmed on Friday the carmaker will have to reduce its total production this year by 500,000 over the shortage of semiconductor chips, APA reports citing Teletrader.

Commenting on the situation, CFO Clotilde Delbos stressed Renault is unable to set fourth-quarter expectations as "the information coming from suppliers is very unreliable." However, she said that the situation with chip shortages should improve by the end of the year but still remain problematic through 2022.

Most carmakers worldwide have suffered production delays over the same issue, including Nissan, Honda and Stellantis.
