Germany exported goods worth 53.5 billion euros (around 63.0 billion U.S. dollars) to countries outside the European Union (EU) in June, up 23.7 percent year-on-year, according to preliminary figures published by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on Friday, APA reports citing Xinhua.

The strong increase was "due to the very low level of foreign trade in June 2020," Destatis noted.

Exports even exceeded pre-crisis levels in June and were 9.6 percent higher than in February 2020, the last month before Germany's first COVID-19 lockdown, according to Destatis.

Exports to the United Kingdom rose by 60.6 percent year-on-year to 5.5 billion euros in June, and those to the United States went up by 40.5 percent to 10.3 billion euros.

Exports to China rose by 17.3 percent year-on-year in June, with exported goods worth 9.6 billion euros, according to Destatis.
