The European Parliament voted on Wednesday to accept the European Union Digital COVID Certificate, which contains information on whether a person had been vaccinated, had a recent negative test, or recovered from the infection, in order to ease travel within the EU, APA reports citing Teletrader.

According to the new rule, EU Member States will not be able to impose additional restrictions on certificate holders "unless they are necessary and proportionate to safeguard public health," and in that case, they need to notify other states and the European Commission two days before they are put in place.

The certificate will be accepted from July 1 and it will be in place for 12 months. The final approval of the travel document comes after months of negotiations, with the bloc confirming last month that it intends to reopen borders to fully vaccinated people in hopes to restart the summer tourist season.
