MFA Spokesperson: “Ministry appealed SSS for investigation of smear campaign”

"As an official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, I do not comment on personal issues and I have noted in this regard earlier, as well. However, in recent days, we observe that a campaign of lie and slander is being conducted against the Ministry of Foreign Affairs”, said Head of press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Leyla Abdullayeva, APA reports.

She noted that the State Security Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan has officially been appealed by us for investigation of the smear campaign and taking relevant measures.

“Proud and dignity of citizens are protected with Constitution and other legislative acts in Azerbaijan. In no case, freedom of expression gives the right of smearing citizen’s pride and dignity. Those, who interfere with personal life and disseminate insulting and slander information, should be brought to responsibility.

The duties carried out by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are of strategic importance, and deliberately circulating false and biased information about this important state body, alongside seriously threatening the national interests of the state and damages international reputation of our independent republic.

For these reasons, we consider it necessary to investigate smear campaign and make relevant measures in accordance with the legislation of Azerbaijan,” L. Abdullayeva added.
