PACE confirms mandate of Russian Delegation

A report entitled “Investigation of still ungratified credentials of the Delegation of the Russian Federation with substantive grounds”, has been adopted in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), APA’s bureau in Europe reports.

Attention has been drawn on several negative tendencies in the Russian Federation on democracy, rule of law, and human rights in the document.

At the same time, immediate release of opposition blogger Alexei Navalny has been demanded, as well as conduction of an investigation on his poisoning has been required from Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.

Reporter, who prepared the document, Stefan Schennach touched upon importance of establishment of a dialogue as a tool for achieving long-lasting solutions. For this, he suggested confirmation of mandate of Russian Delegation by the Assembly and assessment of achieved improvement at the end of year, when monitoring report will be submitted, in the report.

Thus, mandate of Russian delegation has been confirmed during voting within the framework of winter session of the PACE. 107 persons voted in favor of the decision, while 36 voted against it.
