Shootout takes place on Azerbaijani-Iranian border

On December 7, 2021, at about 16:00 in the service area of the border post of the State Border Service Border Troops "Goytapa" border detachment near Dashkand village of Yardimli region, two unknown people tried to enter the country by violating the state border, State Border Service Press Center told APA.

Violators were pursued by the border guards with the order "Stop" and warning shots were fired into the air.

However, the border violators did not obey the order, opened fire at the border guard, threw two parcels and tried to flee the scene.

In accordance with the requirements of the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan “On the State Border of the Republic of Azerbaijan”, a border guard used weapons against border violators and one of them was neutralized. At present, measures are being taken to identify the trespasser.

Measures are being taken together with law enforcement agencies to search for other border violator.

The Iranian side was informed about the incident.

Senior officers of the State Border Service were sent to the scene.
