Director of Shaki Regional Perinatal Center detained

Shaki District Prosecutor’s Office has initiated a criminal case in connection with the death of local resident Turkan Mammadova (1987) on March 31 after giving birth by caesarean section on March 28.

The criminal case was launched under Article 314.2 (Negligence committed on imprudence and entailed death of the victim or other heavy consequences) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan, the prosecutor’s office told APA.

Necessary and urgent investigative measures have been taken over the incident, and a complex forensic medical examination has been appointed.

The acting director of the Shaki Regional Perinatal Center, Saniya Mammadova, who also heads the center’s pregnancy pathology department, was detained as a suspect.
