Ahead of China's five-day May Day holiday, the airport in Wuhan, capital of central China's Hubei Province, has seen its highest daily number of passengers since it resumed operations one year ago following the COVID-19 epidemic control, APA reports citing Xinhua.
The Wuhan Tianhe International Airport handled 615 passenger flights, transporting 82,600 passengers on Thursday, said Liu Rui, a marketing manager with the Hubei Airports Group Company.
The passenger number has set a record since the airport's reopening on April 8, 2020, when the megacity of Wuhan ended a 76-day isolation period imposed to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus.
Liu said the travel peak will continue in the upcoming holiday. From April 30 to May 5, the airport is expected to handle nearly 590 passenger flights daily on average, up 7.6 percent compared with the same period in 2019.
Some 80,000 passengers on average will take flights via the airport each day during the period, up 9 percent from the level in 2019, said Liu.
International Workers' Day, also known as May Day, is observed on May 1 in China. The holiday, usually a busy travel period in the country, lasts from May 1 to 5 this year.
