Baku. Ramiz Mikayiloglu – APA. A statement has been signed following the conference of the Journalists Association of OIC Member States held in Baku Oct. 3.
In the statement, the signatories expressed concern over the attempts to form the false opinion about Islam religion.
“We – journalists have to note with regret that the Islamophobic circles of the West and transnational media outlets show events and processes taking place in the Muslim world in a one-sided manner and mostly in a biased form,” said the document.
“Islam is equated with terrorism, every Muslim is presented in the image of potential terrorist. This situation makes it necessary to eliminate divergences between Muslim countries, form a single position and strengthen cooperation in the field of information,” the statement said.
The signatories noted that the important decisions were adopted in the 9th meeting of Information Ministers of the OIC member countries in Libreville, the capital of Gabon in 2012, in order to strengthen the cooperation in the field of information.
The proposal was made in the meeting of OIC member states on December 3, 2014 to establish the Journalists Association of OIC Member States and it was welcomed, the parties recalled.
The signatories expressed support for the establishment of the Journalists Association of OIC Member States.
“We ask the OIC Secretariat to discuss this issue in the 11th meeting of the Information Ministers of the OIC member states and take relevant measures for organization of the first conference of the newly-established Journalists Association in Baku in 2017,” said the document.
